OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR INSPECTION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]
WARNING:
Handling a side air bag improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions in the Workshop Manual before handling the seat (side air bag integrated). (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)
If the sliding mechanisms on both sides are not locked after assembling the seat, the seat will operate accidentally while the vehicle is driven, which could result in serious injury. After assembling the seat, shake it up and down and verify that the sliding mechanism on the both sides are locked.
NOTE:
If cargo is put on the sensor detection area of the occupancy sensor, the sensor may respond.
1. Switch the ignition off (LOCK).
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3. Remove the passenger-side seat. (See SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Connect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
5. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
6. Connect the negative (-) lead of the tester to body ground.
7. Verify that the voltages of each of the terminals are as indicated in the Terminal Voltage Table (Reference)
If the voltage is not as specified in the terminal voltage table (reference), inspect the parts under Inspection item(s).
If not as indicated in the table, replace the occupant classification sensor. (See OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)
